SRM Library Reading Challenge K-5th

August 6-November 30, 2018

In an effort to promote school wide reading, I will be offering students the opportunity to join a reading challenge both in the fall and in the spring. There will be different reading challenges:

K/1st SRM Library A to ZReading Challenge

For each letter of the alphabet, students read a book by an author whose last name starts with that letter. Students who complete the reading challenge by November 30, will receive a new book and a reading certificate!

2nd - 5th grade SRM Library Reading Challenge

Students will read fiction and nonfiction books of their choice to complete a reading challenge. For each book, a student must complete a book report. There will be different book reports for 2nd/3rd and 4th/5th grades. I will provide book report worksheets for students to complete. Students who complete the reading challenge by November 30, will receive a new book and a reading certificate! Please encourage your students to participate!

Scholastic Bookfairs

This year, we will have two book fairs! Both book fairs will take place during parent/teacher conferences. I have received many comments from parents that holding the book fair at this time is ideal for them since they are already at school attending conferences. Also, after talking with teachers, parents can look for books that meet the reading need of their child(ren).

More information to come!

Battle of the Books

Due to lack of participation, I will not be hosting 4th and 5th grade Battle of the Books. The number of students actually completing and reading all books has been declining every year. With all the work that this reading competition entailed, I did see the reason to continue. My hope is that more students will embrace the SRM Library Reading Challenges offered this school year.
