Dear Parents of an SRM Student.
The New Mexico Department of Public Education is asking parents of students in K-2 to fill out a survey that asks how you feel about certain things in their child’s teacher’s classroom. The Educator Parent Survey consists of ten questions aligned to the NMTEACH EES Observation Rubric. Your responses will identify what your teachers and principals are doing well and also areas in which they need help. Honest and thoughtful feedback will be most helpful for teachers and school leaders as they move forward.
Option 1-To take the survey online:
Option 2-If you require a paper survey, please request a paper survey from your child’s teacher.
Option 3-If you prefer to take the survey in person at school, our Computer lab will be available in the morning before and afternoon after school.
Your participation in this survey is greatly appreciated. All answers are confidential and anonymous.
Thank You
Ms. Collaros (IC)
------------------------
Gracias.
Srta. Collaros

The SRM Tech Club is making a HUGE SPLASH this Spring with our SeaPerch Underwater Robot Challenge! We’ve finished building our Robots, and our 5 Student Teams of 4th & 5th Graders will be competing against other APS Elementary Student Teams in an exciting upcoming event. Teams will gather at the West Mesa Aquatic Center on Tuesday, May 9th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to navigate underwater obstacle courses and participate in sprint racing events with their Robots. Student teams will also present to a panel of judges, and discuss their building/learning process.
We may have as many as 15 teams of elementary students competing with their self-built SeaPerch Robots, and it promises to be an exciting day! This has been an incredible collaboration with our partners at West Mesa and Valley High Schools, and an excellent mentorship opportunity for secondary students. To our knowledge, this is the first SeaPerch competition for elementary students in the nation, and another example of how APS schools—especially our STEM/STEAM programs—continue to innovate.

In April we will be kicking off Incredible Kids month, which is a celebration of all of our SRM students and their unique talents, personalities, and achievements. The goal of Incredible Kids month is two fold: to boost student self-esteem and encourage parent participation.
Parents, family friends, relatives, etc. are encouraged to write letters to their kids praising them for their special qualities. The letters are to be sent to school and given to the teacher.
Every teacher should set aside time each week to read the letters aloud to the class so that every student can be recognized and feel special.
After the letters have been read, I will post the letters in the "Hall of Fame."
Students can also write letters to their peers outlining what qualities they admire about one another.
Thank you in advance for helping me make each and every student feel special and appreciated!
Sincerely,
Faith Starkweather, MA/LPCC

Teachers that have students with perfect attendance in February will give them a ticket for popcorn in the morning of Friday, March 3rd. The student will turn in their ticket at the popcorn booth (will be set up outside of the cafeteria) after their lunch on Friday.
Perfect attendance for March will be recognized the first Friday in April.
